sludger
Trying to refresh my memory. We know that odd order harmonics in 3rd and 5th are filtered as part of the function of the induction motor but when pulling apart an older soft starter here I noticed they use an SCR/Diode pack. Would that not cause problems with even order harmonics as opposed to if it were and SCR/SCR. Also, do any companies actually still use that setup? Thanks
marke
The SCR diode type of soft starter does produce even harmonics which will be more damaging to the motor and supply than odd harmonics. I am not aware of product manufactured today using the SCR diode architecture. Best regards,Mark.
